The rather strangely named Gypsy and Pig is a great place to try your hand at the Japanese tonkatsu style of food. This means pork meat rolled in egg, crumbed and deep fried. Oh it’s bad, very bad, but what’s life without a few bad choices?

Gypsy and Pig specializes in Kurobuta meat, which comes from purebred berkshire pigs. A great dish to have here is the Kurobuta Eyefillet. The taste is just too good to imagine! If you’re looking for a non-fried option, try out the Pan grilled scotch fillet – the texture of the preparation is amazing and your stomach will thank you for it!

The menu is a bit pricey, but the quality and taste more than makes up for that. Tonkatsu is a guilty pleasure that might not be a daily routine, but definitely bears consideration for those days when you’re just looking for something heavy to fill up on and hang the calories!
