Locanda is part of the Rydges Hotel on Exhibition St and consists of the restaurant part and the private dining room. Sleek slate floors are surrounded by floor to ceiling glass wine cellars. Definitely a cool location! Head Chef at Locanda is Paul Griffiths, winner of Publisher’s Choice ‘Chef Of The Year’ 2007 and Finalist in the AHA ‘Chef Of The Year’ 2014 State Awards. Coming down to brass tacks, this place takes its food pretty seriously. Their WHOLE ROASTED SUCKLING PIG IS SIMPLY AMAZING! The meat juicy and full of flavour, the crackling super crispy! The chips are not just chips, they are absolutely delicious! But not just that, the salmon and ribeye cooked to medium-rare perfection and is served with a red wine jus and cannelloni and salads is out of this world as well. And truffled fries with parmesan. So much to choose from! And they don’t stop just here. Apart from the titillating food, they serve some heavenly dessert. Their white chocolate parcel has an amazing tiramisu like cake inside, making it simply delicious. The macarons are made exactly how macarons should be like. When you bite into it the light crunchy shell breaks and you get to the delicious ganache center. The upside-down Black Forest Cake, chocolatey and to anyone’s delight (plus it has had whole cherries in it!)
All in all, with some beautiful ambience, dim lighting, great waiters and waitresses that get assigned to your table. Coupled with very generous portion sizes and its extremely elegant location makes this place a must visit for anyone who is in Melbourne CBD and is looking for a piece of heaven.
